Jane C. Hartmann died on April 4, 2025. She was born on December 4, 1944, the daughter of Hermann and Catherine Hartmann. She is survived by her beloved sister, Mary Hartmann of Pawtucket and her brother Paul Hartmann and his wife Muriel of San Antonio, Texas and their two sons – Gregory and Michael.

Jane was a Junior High Science teacher for 30 years. She began her career in the Narragansett school system and later taught at Winman Junior High in Warwick for many years. Jane enjoyed a close comraderie with other teachers at Winman. They were her colleagues and her friends, long after their teaching careers had ended. Jane’s quick wit and repartee could liven up any party. Jane and her friends loved a party. She could be seen enthusiastically singing and dancing to the music.

Like many teachers, Jane was well- traveled. From camping across country, to touring Europe, to climbing to volcanos in Hawaii and Mount St. Helens, to cheering gymnasts at Olympic Stadium in Atlanta. She was very proud of her German heritage. On one of several visits to Germany, she brought home pieces of the Berlin Wall, which had recently fallen.

Jane had many “godchildren”, even if she wasn’t the designated godmother at their Baptisms. On Christmas Eve, she would make her rounds, visiting each family with gaily wrapped presents and a big smile. She loved the movies and was an avid Star Wars fan. Everything about the galaxy interested Jane. She picked up her godchildren in her beloved Firebirds and took them to the movies their parents didn’t want to see. She loved her “godchildren” and they loved their Auntie Janie.

Jane had many friends. She was the best friend a person could have. In celebration, in grief, at births and graduations and weddings and funerals, Jane was by your side. A confidant, a helper, a fellow traveler through life, she was an ever present support to the many whose life she shared.

May the Force be with Jane as flights of angels sing her to her rest.

Services will be private at a later date.
